State of the Map US 2015 in New York. We were there!

As you may have noticed on our Twitter and Facebook, we attended State of the Map US 2015 in New York. The event took place between June 6 and June 8. What a great experience! We met many map enthusiasts and attended various interesting talks.

For the neophytes among you, State of the Map US is the US version of the annual OpenStreetMap conference, gathering OSM lovers, mappers and location data specialists. This time, we had the incredible chance to be welcomed at the United Nations headquarters, in the heart of New York City.

As a Platinum Sponsor of the event, we presented our technology directly at our booth and also had the chance to host three talks.

Check out our three talks (also available on Youtube):

Talk 1:

“Customer feedback from Telenav’s OpenStreetMap driven Scout navigation application has highlighted map data issues within the United States. This session explores how Telenav’s Map Data team responded to the feedback by improving the Map in the rapidly developing suburban area north of Dallas, Texas.”
Telenav Map Data Team Behind the Monitor and in the Field A North Dalla, TX Case Study by Kristen Kam

Talk 2:

“Since Telenav launched the option to leave feedback on the OSM map in the Scout navigation app, we have received thousands of feedback items which inspired the first major new feature: sharing the most relevant and actionable feedback with the OSM community using OSM notes.”
Connecting Telenav ‘s Scout Users with the OSM Community for Continuous Map Improvements by Frederic Julien and Alex Ilisei

Talk 3:

“The Mexican statistical institute INEGI recently made available its national map as open data, and the OpenStreetMap community has begun the process of improving the map with this content. In this session, we will present some preliminary findings on the quality and richness of the INEGI data and its ability to further enhance OpenStreetMap for turn by turn navigation.”
When will Mexico be navigable on OpenStreetMap by Miriam Gonzalez and Andres Ortiz

All in all, it was a terrific event. Many thanks to the OSM foundation, especially the US chapter, for organizing such a great gathering. We are looking forward to the upcoming events and will be back.
